May 08 - Issue 17
News from the AGM

There was an attendance of 51 members and apologies from 14.

Admission prices and subscriptions for all categories except Junior Family Membership will be as for last season.

Family Membership is increased to £115 from £100 for one child and £25 for each subsequent child. There is an increase in the benefits as each Family Memebership will be entitled to full voting rights for a nominated member of the the family group. In addition each child of paid up membership and registered with the RFU to play will receive a complimentary playing shirt courtesy of sponsorship full details of which will available shortly. This means that the same playing shirt will be used for every playing team at Henley RFC from 7 to Hawks.

Nick Hester has taken over from John Kernick as membership secretary for the club and he will be sending out requests for payment of subs in early June. A speedy response from members will be appreciated to assist with cash flow requirements in the off season.

The Officers nominated and elected for the following year were:
President Noel Armstead
Chairman Phil Woodall
Director of Finance Keith Alfreds
Director of Marketing Aubrey Doran
Director of Facilities Steve Rockell

There were no nominations for Director of Facilities Steve Williams having stood down.

The officers elected were unopposed but Keith Alfreds gave notice that he would not be standing for election in 2009.

Aubrey Doran was presented with the Clubman of the Year Cup by chairman Phil Woodall to acclaim recognising the hard and successful work he has continued with marketing and sponsorship.

Tony Cooke received the Hedley Roberts Cup on nomination by Tony Hobbs and friends of HR for his long term service to the club.

A big thank you
Doug and Graham
Doug and Graham would like to thank all of those Club members who contributed to their visit to St Andrews. The picture shows that they actually did play the Old Course and they are here seen posing (as usual) on the bridge crossing the Swilcan Burn. Doug smiling having just got out of the Road Hole bunker in one, we will not say how many it took him to get into it!

Thanks to everyone we had a great time, and played some good golf!

MAY HAWKSQUAWKQUIZ: Questions
1) Which player other than Tom French featured for the Hawks last season and is now making a name for himself in the Guinness Premiership....and which club does he play for ?
2) Henley's Rochelle Clark starred for England Women in their emphatic Grand Slam win. England Women are tipped to present a realistic challenge to the Black Ferns in the 2010 World Cup. Name the two ex Henley Hawks Women who are also England stars.
3) What is the origin of the name DRY LEAS and what area of land does it encompass ?

MEDIA MORSELS and BARSQUAWK
Maidenhead Advertiser reported Ricky Khan a recent departure from the Hawks staff working with Maidenhead as Backs/Fitness Coach in their efforts to stave off relegation from South West 1. Maids narrowly failed, going down with Reading and help set up no fewer than four local derbies for the Wanderers next season.

Reading Abbey and Wallingford, where ex Hawks lock Mike Turner has beefed up their pack, are the other two. Our accountants must be licking lips at the thought of potential gates. Marlow pipped by Wanderers in epic circumstances to stay put in South West 2 had 300 watching their final match showdown. By the way Ricky is tipped for the Head Coach job at Braywick Rd next season.

Snippets from the Standard: Fozzy having his blood pressure checked !! -- Wanderers' Hugo Gentilli & Ed Dupee raising money for charity -- 7's at RAF Benson & influx of 250 families over next 18 months: any Damudamu's or Sharpy's the Squawk wonders ? - Caleb Southwell in May Fair rescue.

Rugby Times (compulsive reading) reports London Scottish signing 5 premiership players. . . . . . . . . Bring them on!

Newbury Weekly News reports Dan Smaje exiting Monks Lane, whilst Oxford Mail's excellent Ed Mezzetti published his annual squad of the year from Oxfordshire Rugby. No Hawks players included in the 22 (5 last year ), Hawksquawked: you cannot be serious. Deadly serious came the reply !!Much beating of wings: Just you wait: This time next year.

Cast your minds back 12 months. A tale of two Ex 1st teamers and reffing legends Colin (Dinky) Dalton and Paul (Emo) Emerson will now unfold: Dinky drove Emo up to HQ where Emo was officiating at the H Cup Final. Camaraderie amongst refs ? No ! Dinks wanted to nick a privileged parking spot. To cut a long, tall story short they spirited away a signed shirt. The committee were so impressed that it's going up on the Clubhouse Wall of Fame. Wot ? Just because Emo's signature is on it. Well, there is more to it than that ! Remember the day ?

TALON CONTEST
See May HawkSquawkquiz question 3: A not inconsiderable prize will be awarded to the Henley Hawk Mini or Junior who gives the answer that most impresses the Squawkjury, either fact or fiction. Do the M and J's read EHack ? If not could Mums and Dads please tell them about the contest ( every month from now on ) and perhaps get them on the mailing list or forward them a copy of yours. Do Mums and Dads read/receive Ehack ?
